Why the Old has Gone and the New Has Come
The old has gone, the new has come – this saying has been spoken for centuries. Many people know it more as “out with the old and in with the new.” It’s a great way to release tension over losing something dear to you in the past and inviting new things into your life.
But why do people cling to this saying – the old has gone and the new has come?
Letting go of the past is a difficult thing for many people to do. With the past, you often think about what you could have and should have done. Unfortunately, just thinking about the could haves and should haves can’t change anything that has happened in the past.

As much as you try to undo what has been done, you cannot. You can’t change the events that have played out to the present that you currently hold. You also cannot undo the feelings and thoughts that come from those events in the past.
The past is the past and the only thing you can do is work on accepted what has been done, has been done. By saying, the old has gone and the new has come, you are telling yourself that the past is gone. It’s forever put away. You can’t bring it back. You can never make the old brand new again. It’s out with the old, and in with the new.
So, when the past is in the past, the only thing you can do is embrace the future. What you do now shapes what happens in the future. This day right now will be the past at some point, and that will do what the past has done for you now.
What does this mean for you right now? If you don’t let go of the past, you’ll continue the nightmare of the past into the future. What you do now shapes the future. You will shape the future when you rely on the past to dictate what you do in the present.
By letting go of what has happened in the past, and concentrate on what you want to do in the future; you will be able to overcome the tortures of the past. You will be able to make plans now that will end up shaping a much brighter and successful future.
This is why people will often say the adage – the old has gone and the new has come.
When you convince yourself that the old is gone forever, you can then feast your eyes on the new to come. You can prepare yourself, so you can then prepare your future.
Don’t take advantage of the awesome opportunity you have right now in life. You have your whole life ahead of you and right now is how you will get yourself ready for it. You can’t get ready for it if you are not present in the present. You can’t get ready for it when you are stuck in the past.
Take a moment to write this done – the hold has gone, the new has come.
Place it in places you will it daily. Reiterate the phrase multiple times a day, especially when you start to think of the past and want to cling to it. By reminding yourself and coaching yourself to walk from the past, you will be able to free yourself from its grasp and accept what the present and future has in store for you. You’re able to be flexible, which will make all the difference in your life.
